This improved model is currently in testing for its Edge browser. This mode is available to testers with the Canary version of the browser and enables it manually with a flag. Microsoft said that “Performance mode helps you optimize speed, responsiveness, memory, CPU and battery usage, Performance improvements might vary depending on your specifications and browser habits.”
It’s not clear that the performance mode changes Edge which affects the Sleeping Tabs feature. This performance mode has Sleeping Tabs with timeout locked to five minutes. The sleeping tabs in Edge allow the browser to automatically release system resources for inactive tabs which helps new tabs run better.
The Performance mode in Edge is useful for laptop users, as browsers give a good impact on battery life. Google also improving Chrome performance and battery usage where it improved CPU usage, and improved RAM and GPU usage.
